A Giving Lesson

Lending vs. Gifting Money

Written by: | Posted on: | Category:

Money Talks Book Review. I was asked the question: Are you being kind to others in the way you earn money? Kindness: Earn all you can but not at the expense of your neighbor.--John Wesley I learned an expensive lesson about lending money to people I call friends. I learned that lending money can ruin relationships particularly when they cannot return the loan. People will avoid you and not return your calls when they cannot return the loan or perhaps never intend to. So, I now give money away as a gift expecting no return and asking that they do not consider it a loan. I now think it is an insult to give the money back because they are “blocking my blessings.” This giving praxis has improved my relationships with people and God because I am blessed to be a blessing. Those friends are more cordial, not in a beholding way but in a thankful attitude. In fact, none of the folks who have received a gift have ever needed it again and we are closer as a result.
