Generosity Beyond Money

I am Methodist, and at our baptism, we are expected, as faithful disciples, to give of our time, talents, and treasures (money/assets). Of these three, time is my most valued gift to God and the church. Thus, in 2021, God inspired me to apply for a grant to mentor boys on Civics and Chess as a way of giving back to the community. The mentoring sessions are ninety minutes every Tuesday; however, the preparation for each session typically requires four to six hours a week, including scheduling lessons, guest speakers, etc. In my economy of time, that is a sacrifice because of all the other responsibilities I have as a pastor, community organizer, mentor, husband, father, grandfather, etc. Thus, I believe, God has called me to this ministry so that I might impact generations to come in their understanding of a positive African American role model who is interested in their future as a respectful human being. No greater gift can I give than to be an example of Christ as an Ebony leader for boys.
